Our Abode

'Have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful'.
This is our house, the little details that I litter my Instagram with. abode Collage2 abode Collage abode Collage9 abode Collage5 abode Collage8

Craig and I have lived in London for 7 years now.  I started off in halls of residence in Elephant and Castle, Craig in a flat in Vauxhall. Then we have both lived together in Stepney Green, Brick lane and now the only place that I can honestly say I have feel safe and happy, Newington Green.

We have been in this house for four years now and I think it will probably be the last place in London that we will call home.

I have a serious problem in that I have to 'style' everything in my life! Combine that with what I do for a living, the fact that I have collected and sold vintage homewares for years and the result is the vintage emporium/ prop shop/ drum haven that we call home.

It has been the location for many a friend and personal photo opportunity, a Weird Dreams video, a We Walk On Ice photoshoot and Craig has also been photographed for ASOS here too.

I want to start an 'Abode' series of posts where I share with you the details of different rooms in our house. I am un decided on where to start so I thought I would put it to you. What would you like to see first?

Our Bedroom, Living room, Kitchen or Bathroom? You can see glimpses of them all in the above pictures. The choice is yours.

  1. You have such a lovely home! We live rather close actually, you should come for tea when I get back (if you haven't already as Harriett's my flatmate!). I must say my bit of the house is not so nicely decorated yet, we're still furnishing and painting! xxx

  2. What a clever blog idea, Kelly-Marie. I really enjoyed the scenes you have posted here. I think I would like to vote for the living room being the first room you share with us. Thank you and I look forward to seeing more! ♥

  5. What a beautifull house :)

Are you watching the Carnivale at the moment? It's one of the best TV series for me. Watched it 3 years ago and it's such a shame that they've never finished it...

    1. Thank you. :) Yeah we watched it all last year and have the box set. I am so in love with it and was heart broken when it ended. Such a shame they didn't finish it. I spent ages afterwards reading through all the mythology behind it on their wiki page to fill the void. Hehe xx

    2. Best tv show ever! Silly American's didn't give it the ratings they needed to get another series! Ended so short, they had many plans! :( x

  6. So many pretty things! I esp love that deer/tree vase. And our cats DO look a like. I say you lay it out as someone who was walking into your house for the first time... so starting with the first room they would see.

  7. I knew your house would be lovely! (And Carnival on tv, perfect.) I'd love to see some kitchen details, it's usually my favorite place in all houses. Such a lovely home you have!

How is the neighbourhood, by the way? I have a friend who's looking for a new apartment around Hackney but she can't seem to find an apartment in a decent block. (Nothing available or maybe that's just her luck, I don't know! :D )

    1. Newington Green is so lovely. Very safe and family oriented. Lots of nice pubs, resturants and cafes. It has a village feel about it. We are so close to Dalston, Angel and Stoke Newington. It's the safest place I have lived in London and there are lot's of beautiful period houses to rent. They should definitely have a look around here. xx

  8. For some reason when you asked what we wanted to see around your house my first thought was bathroom! I still haven't decorated our apartment much since I don' consider it my "home" I don't really know why, I guess I'm always looking out for somewhere else to live so I don't want to put too much effort into where we are now, although I still have my labyrinth and goonies posters up and my figurines, haha!

That jug with flowers in it is amazing! I love all the detail in your home, and the skeleton chair! I can't wait to see more, I love it already!

  12. So many marvelous treasures and trinkets, much as you said in regards to my recent yard sale finds, I'd be too hard pressed to pick just one or two favourites. I adore (and am inspired by) everything!

  13. An intriguing idea. The poet W. H. Auden did a book of poems describing rooms in his house. If I remember rightly he left the lavatory till the last and found it quite difficult to write about. In the event, he came up trumps with 'The Geography of the House'.

For myself, I go by Rumi's advice and have little else other than books:

    Do not build much
for I intend to have you in ruins
    If you build 200 houses in a manner that the bees do;
I shall make you as homeless as a fly
If you are the mount Qaf in stability
I shall make you whirl like a millstone

  14. I love kitchens cause I think they're the heart of a house and the most important events are happening in kitchens. So - if you ask me - I'd like to see your kitchen first. Also I'm an addicted crockery-collector and I'm all the time interested in seeing other people's china. And last not least I love cooking which means experimenting for me and so the kitchen is my laboratory. I'd love to see your laboratory. Hugs from Miss Maple

  15. I feel very lucky to have been able to explore your house in person! You have so many exquisite things and I am similarly a hoarder of vintage so, fingers crossed, one day I might have a home half as amazing as yours! I would love to see your bedroom because I didn't get to peep in! (creep) xxxxx
